Integrated Pest Management
When a park or area is scheduled for pest management, a notice will be posted in the park indicating the type of area to be treated, the date of the treatment, the name of the pesticide and the EPA registration number. The staff that apply the pesticide during this process hold, at minimum, a Qualified Applicator Certificate with Category B issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. They are also required to take continuing education courses totaling twenty hours every two years so they stay up to date on the safest practices. We are proud of the high standards and qualifications of the staff as this ensures the utmost care during the application process.
Goals of the IPM Policy
The goals of the IPM policy and its implementation throughout the City are to:
- Reduce the use of broad-spectrum pesticides that negatively impact water quality.
- Create awareness and training among City staff regarding the use of alternative pest management techniques.
- Provide a means of educating all City departments to practice the most appropriate approach for managing pests on City facilities
Pesticide Posting Program
When a park or area is scheduled for pest management, a notice will be posted in the park indicating the type of pest/vegetation to be treated, previous actions taken to address the pest, type of pesticide to be used and the date of treatment. The notice also indicates the name of the pesticide, the EPA registration number and the EPA hazard category. The staff that apply the pesticide during this process hold, at minimum, a Qualified Applicator Certificate with Category B issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. They are also required to continue education every two years so they stay up to date on the safest practices. We are proud of the high standards and qualifications of the staff as this ensures the utmost care during the application process.
Pesticide Posting Signs can be found at most main entrances at each park.
