PLEASANTON, Calif. — At its regular meeting on May 7, 2024, the Pleasanton City Council approved the allocation of nearly $1,200,000 in funding for its Housing and Human Services Grant Program and Community Grant Program, aimed at supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents and address community needs.
The Housing and Human Services Grant (HHSG) Program, totaling over $1,100,000, is designed to assist organizations in providing essential services and support to vulnerable populations within the community. These funds are allocated to nonprofit organizations and agencies that deliver critical services such as housing assistance, food security programs, mental health services, and more. Grant recipients for the HHSG Program include Tri-Valley Haven, Axis Community Health, Open Heart Kitchen, CityServe, Tri-Valley Reach, Goodness Village, and numerous other organizations.
Additionally, the Community Grant Program, with a budget of $80,000, focuses on supporting projects and programs that contribute to Pleasanton’s overall well-being and vibrancy. This includes initiatives related to arts and culture, recreation, environmental sustainability, education, and youth support and empowerment programs. Since its inception in 1992, the Community Grant Program has helped fund over $1 million for local public arts and youth projects. Some of this year’s recipients include the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council (PCAC), Museum on Main, the Go Green Initiative, Teen Esteem, and Pleasanton Partnerships in Education.
Funding for these grant programs is made possible through a combination of sources, including the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program, the City’s Lower Income Housing Funds (LIHF), and the City’s General Fund. By investing in these programs, the City of Pleasanton demonstrates its commitment to addressing pressing social issues, fostering community engagement, and enhancing the overall livability of the city.
The allocation of funds for the Housing and Human Services Grant Program and Community Grant Program is based on a thorough review process, including careful evaluation of applications, consideration of community priorities, and collaboration with the City’s Human Services Commission, Housing Commission, Youth Commission, and Civic Arts Commission.
