Jack Balch

Jack Balch is serving his first term as Mayor of the City of Pleasanton, preceded by serving one term on the Pleasanton City Council from November 2020-2024. Prior to his election to the City Council, Mayor Balch served on the Planning Commission for more than six years and was chair in 2017. From 2009 to 2014, he was a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission, which he chaired in 2012. During this time, he served on the Kottinger Place Task Force, the Parks & Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee and the East Pleasanton Specific Plan Task Force.

Mayor Balch currently serves on multiple regional and city committees, boards and commissions including the Alameda County Mayors’ Conference, Alameda County Liaison Committee, Ava Community Energy, Alameda County Transportation Commission, Zone 7 Liaison Committee, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Joint Powers Authority, Dublin Liaison Committee, Pleasanton Unified School District Liaison Committee, and the City Audit Committee.

Mayor Balch has worked in a business finance role for more than 25 years and is currently the Chief Financial Officer of his family’s commercial real estate company located in the East Bay. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in business from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he graduated cum laude in business administration. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), an accredited Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and holds a Real Estate Broker’s license.

Mayor Balch is a lifelong resident of the region, attending Sunol Glen Elementary School and participating in Sunol 4-H, showing animals at the Alameda County Fair during his youth. When not working, Mayor Balch enjoys hiking, mountain biking, fishing and camping with his family. He has been a coach for Pleasanton Little League and continues to serve on several boards and volunteers with several organizations in the area.
